Match Report v Whitmore CC (Saturday 14th July 2018)
The final game of the season saw us host top of the table Whitmore on another warm sunny morning. It was always going to be a tall order but the kids played with enthusiasm and determination with a team spirit that has grown as the season has gone on.
Winning the toss and fielding first allowed little Zack to take his first wicket of the season which together with great bowling from Greta, Isaac and Arthur restricted the opposition and frustrated their big hitters.
Top striking by Wyatt, Charlie, Ryan, and Edward and some memorable hitting by Zack saw us make a game of it and mean that our season ends with our heads held high and much to look back upon with optimism and positivity for our first junior season.
Their cricketing development over the weeks has been immeasurable but the way in which they have approached each and every game, the manner in which they have respected the opposition and the coaches and the enthusiasm and fun they have displayed has meant that this will be a season never to forget for the Club.
A huge thanks goes out for all the help and support given by parents, guardians, coaches, scorers and tea makers!

Match Report v Leycett CC (Saturday 7th July 2018)
Superb effort again by the kids but sadly just coming off second best against a poorly behaved Leycett team.
The weather was very hot and this tired them out earlier than would be the case. This may sound silly but we got beaten by the weather. It was so difficult for the kids to concentrate in that heat when they’ve batted and bowled and ultimately the last few overs we lost concentration but when you are 5-8 years old that will happen. Thanks to everyone for helping out.
The one thing we are always far better at is respecting the opposition and on this occasion it showed up the contrasting teams – the name calling from them was disgraceful, something I hope to never hear of in an u8 game again! To be told by a Leycett u8 players that ‘we were crap’ was quite astonishing.
So after this long essay….. I am very proud that we have such a lovely polite bunch of kids and it’s. Pleasure to help Bellers coach them (oh and I suppose the guardians aren’t too bad 😉👍😂!!) Well done team!
Match Report v Woore CC (7th July 2018)
Surfing on a tide of jubilation and confidence after our first win of the season, we travelled out of Shropshire and then back in to take on the mid table meddlers of Woore. Another cloudless sky welcomed us as we bid to ‘bring it home’ again.
Losing the toss, we were put in the field but our bowling and fielding restricted the home team and 3 wickets were taken. Great bowling from the debutant, Jacob, and disciplined bowling from Greta, Arthur, Isaac and Zack demonstrated a marked improvement on the wide count from the previous week!
Great batting from Wyatt, Ryan and Charlie BR meant that we were always in the game.
After the break, the sugar of the biscuits became our nemesis as we conceded 24 runs in 2 overs in what can only be described as manic mayhem! Overthrows or ‘buzzers’ as David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd calls them were the order of 12 very eventful balls.

Match Report v Wood Lane CC (30th June 2018)
It is difficult to express my sheer exuberance and pride in submitting this match report.
As we entertained Wood Lane at home on another sweltering morning in the glorious spectacle that is Norton In Hales CC, the team approached the game with excitement and passion. There was a different feel amongst them – something was in the air, something large was looming on the horizon – could it be? Could we dare to dream – oh yes we did, we only went and did it….
Losing the toss and being put into bat did not intimidate us – in fact, it spurred us on. Not losing a wicket in this format of the game is so so important. To understand that is something but to execute it is very difficult. To a man (and girl) the calling was perfect – clear and loud shouts of “wait”, “yes” and “no” meant that no silly run outs were the cause of any problems that had blighted us earlier in the season. Crisp striking of the ball was the order of the day – perfect!
When it came to the bowling and fielding, the confidence of the team carried on – great bowling from Greta taking 2 wickets in 2 balls will surely be a candidate for champagne moment of the summer. A wicket for Arthur backed up with some tight fielding meant that we were well ahead of the game at the half way stage.
Fuelled with the orange juice and sugary biscuits the second half got underway as the sunshine continued to beat down on the caldron of the cricket club. Another perfect batting display with no wickets and top striking from Ralph in particular backed up by Edward, Isaac, Rufus and Wyatt meant that it would be a tall order for Wood Lane to get back into the game.
More tight fielding and consistent bowling from Arthur, Greta and Ryan meant that victory was ours …. for the first time this season!
The celebrations were wild…going long into the night! A famous victory to be remembered for an impeccable team performance where months of training and effort all came together!
Well done to all involved – we go again on Saturday!

Match Report v Newcastle and Hartshill CC (23rd June 2018)
A beautiful morning sun and light breeze greeted us at the picturesque Newcastle and Hartshill Cricket Ground after the drizzle of last week which saw the game cancelled.
Itching to get that illusive first victory under our belts there was an over eagerness in our batting which saw too many dismissals against some good bowling and fielding. Behind the game line from the start, it was always going to be difficult to claw our way back into the game but we did ourselves proud in the second innings with some more stoic batting and resilience from Greta, Arthur, Ralph and Isaac along side some quality bowling and fielding from Rufus, Wyatt, Edward and Ryan.
A disappointing defeat against good opposition but a lot of optimism to take into our next game at home!
Match v Market Drayton CC (16th June 2018) – cancelled due to weather
Match Report v Audley CC (9th June 2018)
On 9th June we started the return fixtures with a mouthwatering tie against Audley who narrowly beat us in our first game of the season. Another sun-clad spectacle greeted us as we embarked on our 3rd away game in a row.
In good spirits having been lifted off the bottom of the table we made a great start with our batting through some great hitting by Ralph, Charlie, Edward and Wyatt combined with some really good and controlled running and calling by Greta, Rufus, Ryan and Arthur. More great bowling and fielding ensured that the game was even at the half way stage.
The second half was a re-run of the first with some big hitting in the batting and some great fielding and bowling. It all came down to the last over with us needing 1 wicket and restricting the runs. Amazingly, we just missed out as a possible run out chance just went begging with inches to spare!
Losing by 2 runs was agonising and our luckless streak continues but that first victory will taste all the sweeter when it eventually arrives!
That being said, the improvement in the team is palpable and this was commented upon by the Audley coach who saw us in the first game of the season. Very proud, well done and keep it going. This is just the start.

Match Report v Whitmore CC (2nd June 2018)
A grim and overcast morning greeted the players in the second of 3 straight away games for our developing side. That may have had something to do with the performance in the first innings where we came a good second to a very organised and experienced Whitmore side.
With the manager’s order of no unnecessary run outs ringing loudly in their ears, the team displayed great skill and better understanding and narrowly lost out over the 2 innings. Given the nature of the opposition this was nothing to be ashamed of and it is great to see the development continuing.
There was some fine shot selection and deployment by Isaac, Wyatt and Ralph with some great wicket taking deliveries by Rufus and Edward.

Match Report v Leycett CC (26th May 2018)
Another pleasant May morning greeted us as we arrived at Leycett CC for this bottom of the table clash. With Isaac being slightly delayed by navigation malfunction, the eager Zac was on hand as our super sub! Leycett batted first on a turning wicket and made solid progress against our first class bowling attack. Useful bowling from Greta, Ryan and Ed and good fielding performance as a team restricted the home team and saw that the pressure was firmly on Leycett. A really good batting display saw Norton sail past the Leycett total with some big hitting from Ralph and some solid shots from Ed, Rufus and Arthur. The only downside to the performance was the needless run outs!
Despite the half time team talk, it was de ja vu as we outscored and outplayed the lackluster Leycett team. Scoring 80 runs in total was a momentous performance but this meant it was all the harder to stomach the fact that we lost by just 1 run as a result of the number of wickets we needlessly lost.

Match Report v Woore CC (19th May 2018)
A beautiful sunny morning greeted us on Saturday morning as we hosted the local derby match against Woore CC.
After a gentle warm up, Norton fielded first and restricted the visitors to a modest total with some tight bowling and tidy fielding. Arthur, Greta, Jacob and Isaac all making good use of the early conditions. Some strong batting from Wyatt, Charlie, Ryan and Ed ensured we were level at the half way stage.
With all to play for, Norton again bowled strongly a took a couple of wickets. However, some crazy overthrows in the field proved costly. Striving to recover, there were some lusty blows from Wyatt, Ed and Charlie as the ball hurtled to the boundary but, ultimately, it was not enough as Norton just missed out by 15 runs.
Match Report v Wood Lane CC (12th May 2018)
After a fantastic start to our All Stars programme on Friday evening, the U8s team trekked over to Wood Lane CC on Saturday morning to test their skills in the mor big sunshine.
It was a fabulous setting with a warm welcome from the hosts, along with bacon buttys!
Unfortunately, we lost 3 wickets in our first innings which meant we were always behind the game. However some great bowling and fielding kept us in it at the half way stage. A much improved batting performance in the second innings with some big 6s being struck set the opposition a fair total to chase for victory. Despite some more great bowling and determined fielding, we did not take enough wickets which ultimately proved decisive.
It was another great performance and you can really see the development of the players so plenty to be proud of!
Team :- Arthur, Greta, Ryan, Zack, Isaac, Charlie, Ed and Wyatt

Match Report v Newcastle and Hartshill CC (5th May 2018)
The youngsters enjoyed another battle at home against a well drilled and experienced Newcastle and Hartshill team in the beautiful sunshine on Saturday 5th May.
We played very well as a team and you could really see the improvement and development as the practice sessions paid dividends but sadly it was not enough against the impressive opposition.
Strong batting from Arthur, Wyatt, Edward and Ryan and an impressive debut from Charlie laid the groundwork for the bowlers and the fielders. Corinne, Greta , Isaac all bowled with accuracy and determination while the team fielded well in the hot conditions.
A great performance all round!

A fantastic start to the U8’s season! great fun, great weather, a great game!!!!!!!! Well done to coach Simon Belfield and all the team members and parents.
Match Report v Audley CC (21st April 2018)
Norton In Hales CC’s return to the junior league arrived in spectacular style under beautiful summer conditions as we welcomed Audley CC’s under 8 team to our ground.
The teams were well matched after the first innings with just 4 runs in it. Superb batting skills saw us to 40 with the loss of just 1 wicket with Ryan and Ed seeing out the main Audley strike bowler at the end of the innings. Greta took the first wicket of the season with a delightful delivery on the stumps and the careful bowling of the team restricted Audley to 44 for 1 at the half way stage.
Great batting from Corinne, Zach and Arthur steered Norton to a lead of 25 in the second innings. Spirited bowling and fielding from Wyatt, Isaac and the team confined Audley until the last pairing but their young superstar stole the plaudits with an impressive batting display and won the game for them.
Despite the result it was a super start to the season with everyone thoroughly enjoying the cricket, sunshine and bacon sarnies!
