On another day of rain, hail and sunshine, the 2 Saturday senior teams at Norton in Hales CC faired very differently.
The 1st team at home to Meir Heath scored a massive 194 runs of their rain affected 34 overs, Jack Furnival scoring another 50 plus James Pringle scoring 47 off 15 balls did a lot of the damage. After another rain delay that meant that Meir Heath required 111 off 16 overs. With one over to spare the visitors knocked it off with only 4 wickets down.
The 2nd team away at Stafford CC 3rd X1, bowled the home team out for 119, with all the bowlers chipping in, 3-17 from Scott Lawrenson, plus 2 apiece for Reggie Farnell and Charlie Hine were the picks.
In reply a dodgy start with the top 4 all going back to the pavilion very early. It was left to Jamie Shaw and Charlie Hine to steady the ship, 48 and 34 respectively. In the end a very comfortable and richly deserved first success of the season for the 2nd team lads.

The 1st team, at home to Stafford CC scored a massive 278 off their 40 overs. Joe Wagg achieving a fifty and Jack Furnival getting into his 90’s. Captain Alex Thorley and Darren Long also chipping in with 42 and 33 respectively.
In reply the Norton in Hales bowling attack did their job very professionally. They never let the batsmen get into much pf a rhythm and wickets fell relatively often! James Pringle ending with 4 wickets, Kashif and Anthony Sheeran 2 apiece. Stafford CC bowled out 138 runs short.
The 2nd team batted first and scored a very highly respectable 207 off their 40 overs. Captain Matt Lawrenson top scoring with 47, Simon Dyer 45 and Olly Wain 26 also chipping in well.
Church Eaton’s reply started poorly with a wicket apiece for Jamie Shaw and Reggie Farnell. After the 2 early wickets the home team steadied the ship and put together solid partnerships, in the end knocking off the total required to win only 4 wickets down.

Adeel Khalid and Kashif Ali Moon top scoring with 41 and 29 respectively. At home the 2nd team rattled up a score of 224 in their 40 overs against Hanford CC 2nd X1, Simon Dyer and Matt Lawrenson reaching their fifty. However in the last over to go in the second innings, Hanford required 8 to win. The first 3 balls were dot balls but then a six and a four in the next 2 balls won them the game. Our Christmas walk was another huge success for the Norton in Hales Playing Fields Charity, organised by NIH CC. Despite a fairly large dumping of snow in the early hours of the walk on the 28th December, some 250 walkers braved the elements to negotiate the beautiful walk. Many thanks to the landowners for their assistance, especially Roly Tavernor and Phil Smith for their great hospitality at the refreshment stops. An army of volunteers from the cricket club ensured the walk was safe, followed Covid guidelines and more importanlty ensured everyone enjoyed their walk with plenty of atmosphere, food and drink.
All at Norton in Hales CC would like wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year. We very much hope to see you this coming summer for a summer of great cricket, great entertainment and the usual fun on and off the pitch.
