End of season match report…

Norton-in-Hales CC 1st XI Team needing a win to guarantee promotion. A nervous day was in stall!

Arriving at Swynnerton Cricket Club to a pitch under water didn’t help the nerves, but news soon filtered through that conditions at rivals Wedgwood ground was even worse. More news came through that Wedgwood CC against Hem Heath CC had been abandoned. A quick journey up the road confirmed the news and ‘The Tractor Boys’ were up!

‘Let the celebrations begin’ and my god did we celebrate!

Returning to the Club, the 1st XI Team helped support the 2nd XI Team to a narrow loss before the Prosecco corks was popped and the Club embarked on a wild night…

Oruna supplied a great curry which helped mop up some of the beer consumed and the entertainment continued.. Even a stripper turned up!!

Brilliant season boys.. Onwards and upwards from here – See you all at the presentation evening on Friday 25th September.

Good Weekend!

Norton-in-Hales 1st XI played at home entertaining Hanford CC 1st XI. Norton looking for another win to keep in line as division title winning contenders. Norton winning the toss and electing to bat. An excellent all round batting performance developed with runs being scored by most batsman. The team declaring on 240 for 9 wickets.

After tea, Norton’s bowlers stuck to the task and removed early wickets leaving the visitors trailing. Bowling highlights from Zafar Iqbal 7 for 47 and Michael Dyer 3 for 47.

The visitors being bowled out for 147 leaving Norton with a good win by 93 runs.

Norton-in-Hales 2nd XI travelled to Hanford CC 2nd’s in search of a much needed victory. Norton winning the toss and electing to bat. A strong team performance was to follow.

Batting highlights from Jack Warrington 44 and Rob Warrington 42. Norton posting a credible score of 178 runs for the opposition to chase.

Norton’s bowlers fired from all cylinders with excellent bowling from Matt Riley 3 for 19 and Eddie Warrington 4 for 6 including a Hat-Trick – A good day for the Warrington family and to top the day off C Warrington winning the Clubs ‘Bonus Ball’!

Norton winning the game by a resounding 119 runs.

After the matches the BBQ was lit at the Club. Members & families enjoyed a pleasant social evening helped by the favourably evening sunny weather…

Sunday saw the Norton-in-Hales Under 17’s travel to Moddershall CC. The team not performing with the bat as the team has been accustomed to in recent games.

The bowlers toiled hard but was unable to remove some stubborn batting. It was encouraging to see an excellent fielding display.

Norton losing by 7 wickets.

The team in good spirits and sure to return to winning ways next Sunday at home against Stone CC Under 17’s.

BBQ

Saturday 18th July is BBQ time..

The Clubhouse bar will be open all afternoon & evening for your refreshments serving Joules ales, selected wines, etc.

Please pop down in the afternoon to watch the sporting action or just turn up with your family & friends to the mini BBQ party after the match.

The grill will be lit from 6pm and a flaming good evening will be guaranteed!

Weekend Report

Norton-in-Hales 1st XI welcomed Wedgwood CC for the Saturday afternoon spectacular. Norton losing the toss and was put in to bat. The in-form team scoring runs freely, Luke Claydon (19) getting the side of to a start. Noteable run makers being Simon Ellwell (56) Kyle Morgan (39) and highlighted by a blazing century from Zafar Iqbal (109). The Captain declaring on 264 for 7 off 50.3 overs.

After tea the team set about the opposition with the bowling attack looking strong, Kyle Morgan (3/39) removing early wickets and assisted by Luke Claydon (2/25). The star of the show being Zafar Iqbal (5/23) going on to take five wickets to add to his monumental batting efforts.

Norton finishing off the away team and winning the match by 137 runs.

The weather remained sunny all afternoon. The evening developed and the BBQ was lit, the players, families and spectators was in good spirits socialising on the Clubhouse patio.

On Sunday morning Norton-in-Hales under 17’s entertained Moddershall CC. Norton winning the toss and electing to field. The bowling attack struggled to remove the openers but determination eventually helping the home side to a well earned break through. Tom Furnival (3/19) being the leading wicket taker and assisted by tight bowling from team mates. The opposition completed the allocated overs with a total of 138 for 7 wickets.

Norton batters dug in with an excellent opening partnership from Joel Clark (54) and Jack Furnival (75) both not out taking Norton to a convincing 10 wicket win against a very good side.

Looking forward to another strong performance from the teams next weekend…

Royal Ascot Ladies Day

The horse racing was eagerly watched and the cheers for the winners echoed out.

Top Hats off to the Ladies and some cricketers who enjoyed a good day watching the horse racing.
