After a day of discussion between the various parties involved it seems that the confusion is over and Norton-in-Hales have been declared the winners of yesterday’s Talbot Cup clash with Leycett. This means that Norton will now play hosts to Woore this Sunday in Round 2 of the competition.
A match report from yesterday’s game will follow shortly along with more information about Sunday’s match.
Up to date match reports are now available – Just click ‘Match Reports 2016’ from the Home Page.
The 2016 season opens tomorrow with the First XI playing their first Division 2 fixture at Stafford CC after last season’s successful promotion campaign. Mike Dyer takes over as captain and will be hoping new signings Ryan Elwell, Zac Holm, and brother Chris Dyer can quickly make their mark and taht the team settles in for a successful and enjoyable season. Late team news suggests that last year’s captain Ben Furnival has been drafted in at the last minute to ensure that Mike does not forget to send in an umpires report! The Second XI are at home to Betley and captain Gary Rudd will be hoping they can put last season’s disappointing performances behind them, although player availability still seems to be an issue with early-season school commitments for the youngsters and for older players, work and family commitments taking their toll.
On Sunday the First XI face Leycett (away) in an intriguing Talbot Cup clash with the winners facing the prospect of a home tie with local rivals Woore. Sunday’s tie starts at 1pm and it may be worth travelling the short distance to watch what should be a close contest.
Good luck to everyone taking part this weekend – and don’t forget to wrap up warm!
