Match Update…

Good to report an excellent weekend with the 1st XI Team winning at home. Norton-in-Hales CC batting first with run makers Simon Belfield scoring 55 runs and Zafar Iqbal hitting 58 runs. The Norton bowlers followed eagerly taking wickets with Zafar taking a 5 wicket haul for 40 runs, Simon Line taking 3 for 27 (including a triple wicket maiden). Very accurate bowling from the team with Norton finishing off the match with a handsome 100 run victory.

Norton-in-Hales CC 2nd XI Team struggled at the away ground of Crewe CC in difficult weather conditions. The team took positives from the match with Rob Warrington hitting 63 not out and Paul Evans with a brilliant bowling contribution taking 7 for 20 off 11 overs. An away drawn match that will spur us on for a home win this Saturday.

This coming Saturday’s matches see the 1st XI Team visiting Hanford CC. Norton’s 2nd XI Team entertaining Hanford CC 2nd XI at home.

After the match the Clubhouse will be lively with a social & Curry supper evening! All welcome for this fun evening…..

Cricket Opening Campaign

A very positive start to the season campaign with good results and all round performances from each player.

1st XI Team opened the season on Saturday playing away at Stone SP. Norton-in-Hales batted first with Simon Belfield hitting 79 runs. Zafar Iqbal added to the total scoring 35 runs and Michael Dyer 28 not out. A good but chase able total to defend against and facing a strong side was always going to be difficult for our bowlers. Norton’s bowlers battled away with Zafar claiming 2 wickets but sadly the team was unable to succeed. Although a match loss great encouragement was taken from the teams first outing.

2nd XI Team opened the season with a home game against Stone SP (2nd XI). The away team won the toss and elected to bat. Excellent straight bowling and tight fielding restricted the visitors to a chase able total – the pick of the bowlers being Paul Gould 4/36 off 11 overs and Eddie Warrington 2/26 off 12 overs. Eddie continuing his success with the bat hitting 40 not out. A solid team batting performance leading to the total being reached and the first league win of the campaign to Norton-in-Hales 2nd XI.

Sunday saw the 1st XI Team in action playing in the Talbot Cup at home against Rode Park & Lawton CC. The visitors batting first on a chilly afternoon. Some very good bowling with key bowlers Jack Warrington finishing with 3/49 off 9 overs, Zarar Iqbal 3/20 off 8.4 overs and Eddie Warrington 2/14 off 4 overs. Norton chased down the total with top scorer Michael Dyer in good form hitting a match winning 60 runs not out.

Thanks to the Groundsmen for providing an excellent playing surface and the helpers in the Clubhouse who made sure we was suitably fed and watered….  Roll on next weekend!

Bar Open!!

Busy weekend! Final preparations for the Clubhouse & grounds were undertaken throughout the week for the pending refurbished bar opening weekend.

Grounds are looking in good fettle for the early season and the playing surface is in excellent condition – A lot of hard work by our Groundsmen & helpers.

imagesThe inter-club game on Saturday was competitive with everyone getting a bowl & bat. A break for teas and to cheer on the horses in the Grand National enjoyed by over fifty people (players & supporters). The sweepstake was won by Rob with prizes awarded to punters with placed horses as well.

The players returned to the pitch in chilly and dry weather to finish.

imagesCelebrations followed as the refurbished bar was officially opened by our President Alan Eardley, champagne flowed and the Joules beer was supped!

On Sunday we welcomed Hodnet & Peplow CC for a friendly game. The game was played in good spirits with tricky weather conditions – Cold and blustery wind with showers interrupting the game. Kyle leading Norton to victory hitting a century, scoring 111 runs.

Thank you to Hodnet & Peplow CC for the pre-season warm up match and for taking advantage of our newly refurbished bar after the game…
