What a way to finish the season for Norton in Hales cricket club. Not only did the 1st team win Division 2 by a mile, the 2nd team finish an amazing second half of the season to earn a deserved promotion from Division 6. On top of another amazing year of Junior cricket involvement and the midweek Phoenix team reaching the finals day. What a great night was had by all last night.
The 1st team finished the season with a dead rubber away at Alsager CC. Batting first they set a very sportsmanlike total of 138-8 off 23 overs. Jack Furnival top scoring with 47. The home team run chase started well for the home side, however a late flurry of wickets meant a very tight finish. Alsager in the end winning by 1 wicket. The pick of the Norton in Hales CC bowlers was Anthony Sheeran (6-37). DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS…
The 2nd team needed to win at home to Sandyford CC 2nd X1. Batting first the Norton batsmen all got in without going on a putting a big innings together. Skipper Matt Lawrenson top scoring with 33. However lots of other contributions meant that Norton in Hales CC reached 171 all out in the 37th over. A challenging target for the opposition. Jamie Shaw and Ewan Farnell opened the bowling and soon set about taking wickets, 4-1, 12-2, 12-3. Despite the odd blow to the boundary the away team never recovered and the run in to seal promotion was on. All 6 of the bowlers took at least 1 wicket, the pick being Ewan Farnell (3-24). Sandyford CC 2nd X1 all out for 91. Wild celebrations started which carried on way into the night. DIVISION 5 HERE WE COME……..

Norton in Hales CC 1st team continued their unbelievable season by easily winning after being bowled out cheaply themselves. The 2nd team kept their promotion push going with a fine win away at Endon CC 2nd X1.
1st team elected to bat first at home to Rode Park and Lawton CC and it was not long before that decision looked a bad one. On a tricky wicket the going was very slow and once the first wicket fell, the rest went fast. Apart from Jack Furnival (23) and Jamie Evans (14) no-one got going. All out for 76.
The reply was as exciting as it gets for the home team and supporters. Wicket after wicket after wicket. Kashif Ali Moon (6-7) was on fire, ably supported by Appukutigge Perara (4-22). The away teams innings last into the 9th over. All out for 30. A great win again.
The 2nd team had to win away at Endon CC 2nd X1 in order to maintain their promotion push. Batting first the innings did not start well, losing early wickets. However Ronnie Farnell (78) batting at 4 steadied the ship. With other contributions from Charlie Hine (16) and Charlie Belfield (16) the total reached 171 all out in the 40th over.
The Norton in Hales bowlers again did their job brilliantly, all chipping in with wickets at crucial times. The home team never really go into a winning position. They were all out for 122. Best Bowling figures from skipper Matt Lawrenson (4-11), Charlie Belfield (2-14) and Ewan Farnell (2-26). A great win meaning a win next week in the final game and promotion is gained.
Next week the 1st team finish the season away at Alsager CC, 12.30pm start. The 2nd team finish off at home to Sandyford CC 2nd X1 hoping for that crucial win.

The 2nd team, although beaten this weekend by top of the league Burslem CC 2nd X1, are still in the thick if a promotion battle.
Asked to bowl first away at Silverdale CC, it did not take long for the 1st team to get on top. Another great display of bowling from Kashif Ali Moon (5-25) got the wickets column turning straight away. Good support from Appukutigge Perara (3-25) and Anthony Sheeran (2-12) meant that the home team were bowled out for 78 in 30 overs.
The run chase started with a wobble or 2, 1-1 became 28-2 then 57-3. However skipper Alex Thorley (34 no) hit a six to win the game and start the celebration singing of ‘Bearstone Road’. DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONS…………………………
The 2nd team also bowled first at home to top of the league Burlsem CC 2nd X1. Restricting the away team to 175-5 off their 40 overs. Best bowling from Paul Evans (2-31). After a decent batting reply from the visitors, reaching 27 for the 1st wicket, it soon went downhill and wickets tumbled very quickly. A devastating change of bowling to spin at both ends reaped rewards. Appukutigge Perara (3-14) and Anthony Sheeran (6-14) soon wrapped the game up. Barlaston CC all out for 72. Another step closer to promotion.
The 2nd team were away at Moddershall/Oulton CC 5th X1. Asked to bat first the Norton in Hales batsmen put together a massive score of 252-7 off their 40 overs. Great innings played by James Ruscoe (82), Ronnie Farnell (69), supported by Ewan Farnell (23) and Simon Line (17).
The score was far too much for the opposition and after a very long 40 overs of bowling where only 4 wickets were taken, Norton in Hales won by 125 runs. This has put them right into the mix for promotion with 3 games left.

The 1st team, away at Caverswall CC, lost the toss and bowled first. After a decent opening stand of 32, the wickets started to then tumble. Caverswall were soon 73-7, then 103-9. Finally all out for 120 in the 40th over. Kashif Ali Moon (1-11), Jack Furnival (3-27), Appukutigge Perara (1-36) and Anthony Sheeran (3-22) being the wicket takers.

The 1st team were at home in the top of the table clash with Sandbach CC. Batting first the Norton in Hales batsmen, led by Jack Furnival (95), Darren Long (47), James Ruscoe (24) and Adeel Khalid (19 no) set a very challenging total of 235-8 off their 45 overs.
Inroads were made immediately by the Norton in Hales bowlers, namely Kashif Ali Moon (3-25) to leave Sandbach CC 9-3. The batting team never recovered to mount a winning challenge, however they were stubborn enough to try and hang on for a draw. Another great spell from James Pringle (3-16) got the home team nearer to victory. However, in a devastating second spell by Jack Furnival (4-30), left Norton in Hales needing 1 wicket to win in the final over. In true Hollywood fashion with 3 balls left an unbelievable caught behind from Jamie Evans sealed the win and wild celebrations.
The 2nd team were away at Oakamoor CC 2nd X1, electing to bowl first the bowling unit kept a very tight grip on the home team batsmen. Paul Evans the pick of the bowlers (4-20), with a wicket apiece for Ewan Farnell, Jamie Shaw and Simon Line. The home team finishing their 40 overs on 127-7. The batting reply did not start well. At 75-7 the home team though they had it won. At the crease now were Charlie Belfield (29 no) and Simon Line (31). A stand of 40 for the 8th wicket changed the complexion of the game. Paul Evans replaced Simon Line at the crease and with some magnificent running between the wickets Paul and Charlie saw the game home with 1 over to spare for a Norton in Hales CC win.
