Match Report 23rd May

Norton-in-Hales CC 1st XI played at home against Hem Heath/Forsbrook CC. Norton winning the toss and elected to field. Norton’s in form team starting off as the previous match with blistering bowling from Zafar Iqbal (3/25) sending shockwaves through the top order batsmen. Muhammad Mobeen was the man of the match capitalising from excellent tight bowling finishing off the opposition with bowling figures of (5/8). The opposition skittled out for a mere 73 runs.

After the break Norton’s batsmen set to the task of reaching the small total and after losing a couple of early wickets in the game it was down to Muhammad Mobeen, hitting 38 runs not out to secure victory by 6 wickets. Norton top of the division!

Norton-in-Hales 2nd XI travelled to local rivals Woore CC 2nds looking for a good win to keep the side near the top of the division. Norton losing the toss and was put into bat. The superb opening partnership from Paul Evans (39) and Rob Warrington (101) getting the side off to a perfect start. The majestic century from Rob taking the team to a good total. Norton continued to bat well with in form batsman Mike Bircher (41) adding valuable runs. Norton declaring the innings with 219 runs.

Woore batsmen followed with a big total to chase against Norton’s strong bowling attack. A tough day developed with stubborn batting from the opposition. Norton’s bowlers Martin Harper (2/46) and Kasim Abbas (2/43) unable to make in roads into the resilient batting line up. Norton eventually losing the match by 2 wickets. A huge disappointment for Norton and lessons learnt moving forward to the next match.

After the matches a ‘Quiz Night’ social evening was held at the Clubhouse. Thanks to all participants for the entertaining & fun evening! Special thanks to helpers Rachel, Laura, Sue & Jo as always for your valuable contributions throughout the day providing the bar and kitchen facilities.
